ABOUT THE ROLE

As a GNC & Software Intern, you will assist in the development, simulation, implementation, and testing of Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) algorithms and flight software for AnduraX's reusable re-entry vehicle and drop-test platforms. You will work on flight dynamics, sensor fusion, embedded software, autonomous control, and simulation environments while collaborating with the Aerodynamics, Avionics, Propulsion, and Systems Engineering teams. This is a highly hands-on role involving software development, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, vehicle integration, and flight campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assist in developing Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) algorithms for flight vehicles and drop-test platforms.
  • Support the implementation of sensor fusion algorithms using IMU, GNSS, barometer, and magnetometer data.
  • Develop and test embedded software for flight computers, onboard sensors, and actuator control systems.
  • Assist in implementing attitude estimation, state estimation, and flight control algorithms.
  • Support the development of trajectory generation, guidance logic, and autonomous flight software.
  • Perform simulations using MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or similar software environments.
  • Assist in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and bench testing activities.
  • Debug embedded software, communication interfaces, and flight electronics.
  • Analyse telemetry, flight logs, and simulation results to improve system performance.
  • Support vehicle integration, ground testing, drop-test campaigns, and post-flight analysis.
  • Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, and software documentation.
  • Collaborate with Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Structures, Avionics, and Systems Engineering teams throughout the product development cycle.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursuing or recently completed B.Tech/B.E. or M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong fundamentals in Control Systems, Flight Mechanics, Dynamics, Kinematics, and Linear Algebra.
  • Basic understanding of Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) principles.
  • Familiarity with embedded programming using C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or similar simulation environments.
  • Basic understanding of sensor fusion, IMUs, GNSS, and state estimation techniques.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I²C, or CAN.
  • Strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills with an interest in autonomous aerospace systems.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with Formula Student, SAE Aero Design, CanSat, Rocketry, CubeSat, UAV, Robotics, or similar engineering projects.
  • Hands-on experience with STM32, Pixhawk, Raspberry Pi, Teensy, or similar embedded platforms.
  • Familiarity with PX4, ROS/ROS2, Gazebo, or other robotics and simulation frameworks.
  • Experience developing embedded firmware or flight software.
  • Exposure to Kalman Filters, PID/LQR/MPC controllers, or trajectory optimization.
  • Experience with Git, Linux, and software version control.
  • Exposure to Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), or flight simulation environments.
  • Understanding of the aerospace product development lifecycle.
