ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Aerostructures Intern, you will assist in the design, analysis, manufacturing, integration, and testing of structural components for AnduraX's reusable re-entry vehicle. You will work on lightweight metallic and composite aerospace structures, supporting everything from early-stage design and finite element analysis to prototype fabrication, structural testing, and flight hardware integration. This is a highly hands-on role where you'll collaborate with the Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Mechanical Systems, and Avionics teams to help develop reliable flight-ready hardware for reusable spacecraft.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assist in the design and development of primary and secondary aerospace structures for reusable flight vehicles.
  • Create and modify 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and structural assemblies.
  • Support structural analysis using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Assist in sizing structural members, fasteners, brackets, and payload interfaces for strength and weight optimization.
  • Support material selection for metallic and composite aerospace structures.
  • Participate in composite fabrication, machining, assembly, and prototype development activities.
  • Assist in structural qualification testing, vibration testing, proof-load testing, and post-test inspections.
  • Support mechanical integration of vehicle structures with propulsion, avionics, and recovery subsystems.
  • Help prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing documentation, and engineering reports.
  • Analyse structural test results and recommend design improvements.
  • Participate in design reviews, vehicle integration activities, and flight campaign preparations.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product development cycle.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursuing or recently completed B.Tech/B.E. or M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong fundamentals in Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Machine Design, and Structural Analysis.
  • Basic understanding of aerospace structures, mechanical assemblies, and load paths.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or Fusion 360.
  • Basic understanding of Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
  • Interest in composite materials, lightweight structures, and reusable aerospace vehicles.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and willingness to work in laboratory and workshop environments.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with Formula Student, SAE Aero Design, CanSat, Rocketry, CubeSat, UAV, Robotics, or similar engineering projects.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD modelling, structural design, or mechanical assemblies.
  • Exposure to composite fabrication, CNC machining, 3D printing, or rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity with ANSYS Mechanical, Abaqus, HyperMesh, or similar FEA software.
  • Experience with MATLAB or Python for engineering analysis.
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
  • Exposure to structural testing, instrumentation, or experimental validation.
  • Understanding of the aerospace product development lifecycle.
